Lady Antebellum

Lady A, formerly known as Lady Antebellum, is a Grammy-winning American country music group that has left an indelible mark on the contemporary country music scene. The trio, consisting of Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood, came together in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2006, and their harmonious blend of voices and diverse musical talents quickly propelled them to stardom.

The name "Lady Antebellum" was inspired by the Southern antebellum style, reflecting their deep connection to their Southern roots. In June 2020, the group made the decision to change their name to Lady A in response to the ongoing discussions about racial injustice and the recognition of the word "antebellum" being associated with the pre-Civil War South.

Lady A's breakthrough came with their debut album, "Lady Antebellum," released in 2008, which featured the chart-topping single "I Run to You." The album earned them several awards, including the Grammy for Best New Artist. They continued their success with subsequent albums such as "Need You Now" (2010), which spawned the iconic title track and earned them multiple Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Known for their heartfelt lyrics, soulful melodies, and dynamic stage presence, Lady A has become a staple in the country music landscape. Their ability to seamlessly blend elements of country, pop, and rock has broadened their appeal beyond traditional country music boundaries.

Lady Antebellum made its debut in 2007 as guest vocalists on Jim Brickman’s single “Never Alone”, before signing to Capitol Records Nashville and releasing “Love Don’t Live Here”. The song, which peaked at #3 on the Hot Country Songs charts in May 2008, served as the lead-off single to the group’s self-titled debut album, which also includes the #11-peaking “Lookin’ for a Good Time” and their third single “I Run to You”. 

Lady Antebellum has been awarded Top New Duo or Group by the Academy of Country Music and New Artist of the Year by the Country Music Association, and nominated for two Grammy Awards at the 51st Grammy Awards. Lady Antebellum was awarded Top New Duo or Group by the Academy of Country Music and New Artist of the Year by the Country Music Association in 2008. They were nominated for two Grammy Awards at the 51st Grammy Awards; and two more at the 52nd Grammy Awards. 

Of these nominations, they took home the award for Best Country Performance by Duo or Group with Vocals for “I Run to You”. More recently on April 18, 2010, the group was awarded Top Vocal Group, Song of the Year (“Need You Now”), and Single of the Year (“Need You Now”) at the 45th ACM Awards. The group won five awards at the 53rd Grammy Awards, including the coveted Song of the Year and Record of the Year for “Need You Now”.
