Raised in a medical family, Julio initially pursued a career in law and professional soccer. However, fate had a different path for him. In 1968, a near-fatal car accident changed the course of his life, leading him to discover his passion for music during the long and arduous recovery process.

His breakthrough came with the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest, where he represented Spain with the song "Gwendolyne," and though he didn't win, the exposure catapulted him to international fame.
