Fitz and the Tantrums
Fitz and The Tantrums, an electrifying indie pop and neo-soul band, burst onto the music scene with their infectious energy and irresistible blend of genres. Formed in Los Angeles in 2008, the group was the brainchild of vocalist Michael Fitzpatrick, whose desire to create a band with a vintage sound and a modern edge set the stage for their unique sonic identity.
The band's core members include Michael Fitzpatrick (vocals), Noelle Scaggs (vocals), James King (saxophone, flute, keyboard), Jeremy Ruzumna (keyboard), Joseph Karnes (bass), and John Wicks (drums). What sets Fitz and The Tantrums apart is their dynamic combination of soulful vocals, catchy melodies, and a brass-heavy instrumentation that pays homage to classic Motown and Stax Records while injecting a contemporary pop sensibility.

Their breakthrough came with the release of their debut album, "Pickin' Up the Pieces" in 2010, which garnered attention for its retro-inspired sound and the hit single "MoneyGrabber." The band's energetic and engaging live performances quickly earned them a reputation as a must-see act, and they solidified their place in the indie pop scene with subsequent albums like "More Than Just a Dream" (2013) and "Fitz and The Tantrums" (2016).
Fitz and The Tantrums have become known for their chart-topping hits, including "Out of My League," "The Walker," and "HandClap." Their music has been featured in numerous commercials, television shows, and movies, further establishing their presence in popular culture.
Beyond their commercial success, Fitz and The Tantrums are celebrated for their commitment to delivering an electrifying live experience. The band's performances are characterized by infectious energy, seamless musical chemistry, and a genuine connection with their audience.
As they continue to evolve and explore new musical territories, Fitz and The Tantrums remain a dynamic force in the music industry, capturing the hearts of fans with their soulful sound and magnetic stage presence. With each album and tour, they reaffirm their status as one of the standout acts in the contemporary indie pop landscape.
They were heralded as a “band to watch” in an April 2011 profile in Rolling Stone. They are currently signed to Elektra Records. The band consists of Michael Fitzpatrick (lead vocals and keyboards), Noelle Scaggs (vocals and percussion), James King (saxophone, flute, keyboard, percussion and guitar), Joseph Karnes (bass guitar), Jeremy Ruzumna (keyboards) and John Wicks (drums and percussion). They are produced by Chris Seefried, who is also a co-writer. Fitzpatrick has said that the band’s musical style can be fairly described as “soul-influenced indie pop.” He noted that while the band is influenced by the classic songs of the Motown and Stax record labels, the band is not trying to create an exact replica of that music. In another interview, Fitzpatrick talked about his decision to not use guitars in the band. “I did want to try and make a big sounding record without guitars,” he said. “For me, I just feel like in any music that has a band, the guitar is always there, it’s always featured, it’s always prevalent. I’m just sick of hearing it.”
